How To Lose Weight In A Day

Staying on a crash diet for long term can have very negative effects on your health, but a single-day weight loss plan is considered safe. Losing weight in a day is perfect for trying to fit into a bridesmaid’s dress before a wedding reception or trying to look good in a bikini after indulging in sweets the night before. Since you only have one day, you cannot expect miracles. What you will be losing is water weight, not fat – but the scale will certainly show a lower number and your clothes will fit better. Let’s look at a few examples of how to lose weight in a day. Try one or try them all based on how much you’d like to lose.

Timing is Everything

When you eat is almost as important as what you eat. Most people wake up in the morning and are too busy rushing around getting dressed and ready for their day to even think about breakfast. Food doesn’t even occur to them until mid-morning when they are sitting at their desks without any food options at all. Since they’ll naturally be starved by lunch, they’ll have a big meal and then not think about food again until they are famished around dinner time. If you fall into these patterns, you must stop. According to Jorge Cruse, author of “The 3-Hour Diet,” allowing more than three hours to pass between meals causes the body to go into a fat-preservation mode. This our bodies natural defense against starvation. If your body doesn’t know when it’ll get its next meal, it’ll save fat from the last one until you eat again. When you eat again, it will store fat from that meal – and the viscous cycle continues. So, don’t starve yourself. Eat at least every three hours to avoid putting on extra fat. This will help you lose weight in a day, but it’ll also help you lose weight long term, if you stick with the plan.

Eat Less Calories per Meal

Make a conscious effort to cut back on the amount of calories you consume at each meal. This doesn’t mean you have to starve yourself. Remember, timing is everything. You’ll be eating more often now, so you don’t have to eat as much at each sitting. According to Joy Bauer, author of “The 90/10 Weight Loss Plan,” when you cut back on the amount of calories you consume, your body will stop holding on to excess water and you will immediately feel less bloated. It is definitely not necessary to count calories, especially for one day, but just cut back on the portions a little.

Choose Carbs Wisely

Limit your intake of refined carbohydrates and simple sugars. This means staying away from candy, white bread, white rice and jellys). I know this may sound a lot like a long-term plan, but in addition to making you pack on the pounds via fat, these things can make you feel bloated immediately. Avoid them at all costs on your one day diet. Instead, choose your carbohydrates more wisely. Opt for leafy green vegetables, quinoa and bulgar wheat. You can do it – it’s only one day!

Cut the Salt!

Most people realize that sodium makes you retain water, but what they don’t realize is how much sodium is packed into their everyday foods. Try to eat as much whole, natural foods as possible and do not add salt. Processed foods almost always have high levels of sodium that will make you retain water fast! Sodium is an important part of a balanced diet, but for this one day weight loss plan, eat as little of this mineral as possible. Actually, in a normal balanced diet, you only need about a teaspoon of sodium per day. If you’re like most people, you’re consuming a whole lot more than that on a regular basis. It may be hard for you to cut back your sodium intake to almost nothing for this day, but it’ll be worth it. And maybe if you can keep to a teaspoon of salt going forward, you won’t need to learn how to lose weight in a day again.

Eat Simply

Certain food combinations can cause a backup in your digestive system, which makes you bloated and sometimes even gassy. Eat simple meals from one or two food groups per meal. Start your day with the food group that digests the most quickly: fruit. Eat a few pieces of fruit for breakfast, but don’t have any more fruit for the rest of the day. You’ll notice that it goes in and out quickly. This is how nature intended things to be. If you eat chicken for dinner and have fruit for dessert, the fruit will get stalled behind the meat (which takes a long time to digest) in your digestive system, causing bloating. Also, avoid mixing carbohydrates with protein (so no beans and rice, hamburgers and fries or ground beef tacos). If you follow these rules, you’ll not only avoid any new bloating, but you’ll free up your digestive system to get rid of some of its built-up waste. This will result in a smaller waistline almost immediately.

Drink Your Water

This may sound like bad advice for someone who wants to lose water weight, but hear me out. Studies have been done on people who have lost weight through dehydration, and they’ve found that those people do not burn as many calories. In addition, your body will begin to store more water if you try to dehydrate yourself. This is similar to the starvation defense mechanism in that your body will try to keep you hydrated at all costs – even if that means a little bloating and water weight gain. To avoid this, drink a little more water than you would on a normal day and your body will feel comfortable letting go of a little extra water weight.

Many people ask me how to lose weight in a day, and my response is always to cut out the things that are making you hold onto excess water weight. A day of smart eating always results in some water weight loss.
